GOONL!NE BAFTA 2010 predictions
With the video game BAFTA’s happening this Friday, we at GOONL!NE thought we’d give you our thoughts on who could be in for what award this year.
Big hitters like Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Modern Warfare 2 and Batman: Arkham Asylum all lead the way. Uncharted 2 has a staggering 9 nominations including ones for its story, score and gameplay, with Modern Warfare 2 not far behind with 8 nominations for multiplayer and use of audio.

First up is the award for Action games. The nominations in this category are Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, inFAMOUS, Left 4 Dead 2, and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
It was our game of the year, and to be honest, we’re having a hard time looking past it again. The other titles are all fantastic and deserve recognition but;
Our Prediction: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Next on the list is the award for Artistic Achievement. Again, competition in stiff in this category with Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Flower, Streetfighter IV and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves all vying for this award.
It could be a bit of a left field choice, but we reckon it’s a good shout for an outside bet;

The award for Best Game features many of the same names mentioned above, withAssassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA 10, Left 4 Dead 2 and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves all gunning for this top award.
As with the action category;
Our Prediction: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
The Family & Social award is between The Beatles: Rock Band, Buzz! Quiz World, EyePet, Guitar Hero 5, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Wii Sports Resort.
It’s hard to underestimate the power of Nintendo’s little console with the casual market, so;
Our Prediction: Wii Sports Resort
The award coveted by many a developer, Gameplay truly marks your game out as something special. Up for this award are Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario Bros Wii, PixelJunk Shooter and the ubiquitous Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.
Our Prediction: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
The best Handheld title is fought between those games found on the DS and on the PSP. Nominated are Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet (PSP), LocoRoco Midnight Carnival, Mario and Luigi: Bowser’s Inside Story, Professor Layton and Pandora’s Box and Scribblenauts.

The award for Multiplayer game is between Battlefield 1943, The Beatles: Rock Band, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Halo 3 ODST, Left 4 Dead 2 and as always, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The titles up for Best Original Score are Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince, PixelJunk Shooter and of course, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

For Sports title, nominated are Colin McRae: DiRT 2, FIFA 10, Football Manager 2010, Forza 3, Wii Fit Plus and Wii Sports Resort.

Best Story is being contested between Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Broken Sword – Shadow of the Templars: The Director’s Cut, Brutal Legend, Dragon Age: Origins and as per usual, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The games nominated for Strategy are Command and Conquer Red Alert 3: Uprising, Empire: Total War, FIFA Manager 10, Football Manager 2010, Halo Wars and Plants vs Zombies.

The award for Use of Audio is being battled out between Batman: Arkham Asylum, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, DJ Hero, Flower, Left 4 Dead 2 and guess what, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The Use of Online is between Battlefield 1943, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA 10, LittleBigPlanet (PSP), Singstar TakeThat and Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

The BAFTA Ones To Watch Award in association with Dare to Be Digital is between Colour Coded, Quick as Thieves and Shrunk!

Last but least is the biggie, the GAME Award of 2009, which is the only award to be voted for by the general public. The nominations for this are Assassin’s Creed II, Batman: Arkham Asylum, The Beatles: Rockband, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, FIFA 10, GTA China Town Wars, Legend of Zelda Spirit Tracks, Street Fighter IV, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves and Wii Sports Resort.
