In a year full of great games and big news, we have made sure that our voices, be that as gamers or anything else, is heard and you’ve made sure of that.
So without a further ado, your winners of GOONL!NE’s Best of 2008 Awards.
Winner: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – Best PLAYSTATION 3 Game (Editors and Gamers Choice Award)
Simply put, Metal Gear Solid 4 is an outstanding experience beyond no other, gameplay or storywise. Hideo Kojima has cermented his place as one of the best storytellers ever, not just in gaming but as a whole. You also get a rich and fill gameplay experience with MGS4 which is beyond no other PS3 title this year.
And with Metal Gear Online included, you can see why Metal Gear Solid 4 was a clear choice.
Winner: Gears of War 2 – Best Xbox 360 Game (Editors and Gamers Choice Award)
Ladies and Gentlemen, Gears of War 2 is an epic game of epic proportions for the Xbox 360. A game which, admittingly, starts off slows gets more epic and epic by each level plus with a diverse mutliplayer and the great co-op mode that is Horde, you couldn’t ask for a better game on the 360 then Gears 2.
Winner: Super Smash Bros Brawl – Best Ninendo Wii Game (Editors and Gamers Choice Award)
While hardcore games are hard to come by on the Wii nowadays, there were a couple release this year but us and you decided that out of the lot, SSBB was simply the cream of the lot.
It is simply right now one of the best reasons to buy and own a Wii alongside Galaxy plus more.
Online, a story mode in a first for the game, so many unlockables plus more, it’s no wonder why this is the best game on the Wii this year, lets keep the Brawl going, eh?
Winner’s: Grand Theft Auto IV (Editors Choice) and Fallout 3 (Gamers Choice) - Best Multiplatform Title
Overhyped? Yes.
But that stil doesn’t make GTA IV one of the finest games this year. Niko Bellic’s story of revenge and his American dream is that of woe, emotion and fun and that has to count for something and thats why we think GTA IV is the Best Multiplatform Title for this year. But seemingly, you dont agree.
You’ve decided to put your faith in Fallout 3.
The wastelands of Washington DC in the midst of Nuclear war, the underground of Vault 101 makes you realise what a rough game game Fallout 3 is be that on the PS3 or 360.
And thats why you’ve made it your choice as Multiplatform Title of 08.
Winner: Media Molecule (LittleBigPlanet) [Key People - Alex Evans, Mark Healey, Kareem Attoney and David Smith] - Best Developer (Editors and Gamers Choice)
You cant put a fault wrong with Media Molecule.
They have made one of the most charming and innovitive games in a very long time, let alone this year. We can only hope that Media Molecule’s success story this year may just inspire other studios to make games which get the critical acclaim like LBP.
For now, Media Molecule can be proud of what they have achieved in the past year and a half, it is why they are the Best Developer of 2008.
Winner: Sony Computer Entertainment – Best Publisher (Editors and Gamers Choice)
You cant put a foot wrong with Sony’s 1st party games this year.
While there has been great stuff this year from other publishers, you lot certainly agree with our motion that Sony has made the best stuff at the end of the day, all ranging from Resistance 2, Motorstorm Pacific Rift, LittleBigPlanet plus more And 2009 is set to be no exception with Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, Killzone 2 plus more to name but a few, busy times are ahead for Sony but for us, it’ll be worth it.
Winner: Final Fantasy XIII Announced for the Xbox 360 at E3 2008 – Biggest Moment in Gaming (Editors and Gamers Choice)
Nobody seen it coming from a mile away at the time.
Everybody thought that at this E3, if any PLAYSTATION 3 title was gonna jump ship, it was Metal Gear Solid 4. And while it was talked about before, it quickly dissappeared, unlike the MGS4 rumors.
But the way Microsoft and Square Enix pulled it off, it was something you could not have seen from a mile away. Final Fantasy XIII, once the PS3′s biggest 3rd party exclusive of 2009 (in Japan, it actually still is), is heading to the Xbox 360 in North America and Europe.
For what could have been a boring ending to a great conference (pending that they could have showed Halo 3:ODST like they could have), Square Enix made an big massive earthquake like megaton this past July.
And that is why it’s our Biggest Moment in Gaming of 2008. Relieve the megaton below.
Winner: Best Downloadble Game – WipEout HD (Editors and Gamers Choice)
It was one of the best downloadble games this year.
A game which could have gone on sale at full price on a Blu-Ray instead released on the PS Store for £11.99 with a great load of content there ready to go. Plus, with great graphics at 60FPS @ 1080P and a great running online, you cant not give this game the acclaim it deserves.
Winner: LittleBigPlanet – Best 1st Party Title (Editors and Gamers Choice)
We love Sackboy and you do too apparently.
LittleBigPlanet is nothing short of gaming genius. The cutesy wutesy 2.5D platform gameplay and the abillty to Create and Share levels as well as Play them has made LBP a sure fire hit. It one of the reasons why its the Best 1st Party Title of 2008.
Winner: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – Best 3rd Party Title (Editors and Gamers Choice)
MGS4 is on a roll.
It’s won Best PS3 game and now this
All that needs to be said about this fantastic game is in the Best PS3 game segment but what does need to be said is that MGS4 is one of the best games of all time and you’ve proven that.
Winner’s: Mirror’s Edge (Editors Choice) and LittleBigPlanet (Gamers Choice) – Best New IP
This year has been a great year for brand new IP’s stand out and of course, 2 of them are big winners this year, Mirror’s Edge and LittleBigPlanet.
We loved Mirror’s Edge alot. It was short and frustrating at times so it was a flawed game but you cant help but still love the game despite its flaws, it is something which can be worked upon for Mirror’s Edge 2 but right now, it’s a great start by EA and DICE.
But you don’t agree with us, you went for LBP but we don’t blame you as LBP is absoutely brillant and one of the most original ideas to come out of the industry in a very long time. Media Molecule have made something great and we hope this can be expanded upon in the long term as well as eventually, LittleBigPlanet 2.
Winner’s: Final Fantasy XIII (Editors Choice) and Killzone 2 (Readers Choice) – Most Antcipated Title of 2009
While it aint confirmed for sure if it’ll be out in Europe and North America by next year, it will be out in Japan sometime next year but either way, we’re looking forward to Final Fantasy XIII next year. Infact, expect more info on the game this weekend when we get new trailers, new info and maybe a couple of new screens.
But you lot are only looking forward to Killzone 2 alot more then FFXIII and we understand why, we have had our hands on the beta for a little while and it is amazing. We’ll be posting our multiplayer hands on preview tomorrrow but until then, we can tell you that your excitement for Killzone 2 is truly understandable.

So, this is it. This is the big one, this is where we tell you what game has won the GOONL!NE Game of the Year 2008 based on the Editors Choice and you, the gamer. There has been so many great games this year, truly better then 2007. We have had some fantastic original ideas for games such as LBP and Mirror’s Edge, some great FPS games such as Left 4 Dead and Resistance 2 and in a year full of big shockers such as E3 2008, you can tell that in the midist of an economic downturn, the games industry has boomed this year and all in a year which has seen a new GTA and Metal Gear.
But in the end, only one game has stood out head and shoulders above the rest . It’s no surprise this game is the winner considering it’s been a long time coming but it absoutely deserves every heap of praise it gets. We proud to announce that the winner of the GOONL!NE Game of the Year 2008 is none other then Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for the PLAYSTATION 3.
Winner: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots – GOONL!NE Game of the Year 2008 (Editors and Gamers Choice)
All that needs to have been said about this has already been said already in the list but no matter what, Kojima’s masterpiece is one of the the finest, maybe the finest game of all time and it wraps up all the loose ends in a saga lasting 20 years all in one game, it really is an incredible experience which you should encounter, even if you dont have a PS3, you need to get one just for this game.
It really is truly an amazing game.
So, that was it. Your awards have now gone to the most deserving games of the year as well as ours.
Same time next year for the GOONL!NE Best of 2009 Awards?

wow, I agree with all the titles mentioned above, except for Braid. Braid deserves more praise, its such an excellent game. MGS4 deserves GOTY, and Gears Of War2 should be runner up.
