March NPD Numbers Released – PS3 Sales Lower Then Expected, RE5 Top Game

The NPD group has released the numbers for the month of March and the figures are very surprising. On the hardware front, Killzone 2 and Resident Evil 5 sales werent enough for the PLAYSTATION 3 as it came in at 218k units. The Wii sold over 600k while the Xbox 360 sold over 330k. Meanwhile, the DS sold 563k, the PSP sold 168k and the pricecut did not help the PlayStation 2 when that sold 112k
Resident Evil 5 for the 360 comes in as the software no. 1 with 938k. However surprisingly, Halo Wars, which was thumped last month by Killzone 2, its sales went up to 639k units while Killzone 2 came in, just under 300k, at 296k sold. Even worse on the PS3 software front was that the PS3 version of RE5 was outsold by Halo Wars when that sold 585k.
Worst still for the PS3, its flagship title was outsold by another PS3 exclusive, MLB 09: The Show when that sold 305k.
