Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune was an overwhelming success when it released on the PLAYSTATION 3 nearly two years ago. It was one of the most action packed games of 2007, a game I had alot of fun with and one of the great graphicial games of 2007 alongisde Assassins Creed, the game was quite simply the best looking game on the PS3 full stop, and some argue it still is despite releases from MGS4, GTA IV and Killzone 2, plus upcoming releases like Heavy Rain and The Last Guardian.
But now, let it emphatically be known: Uncharted 2 is simply stunning and is so far to date one of, maybe even the best looking game on PS3, be that on a technical or graphicial standpoint, even with Killzone 2 out there. In our preview build, we got two playable features concerning the multiplayer: 3 player co-op and 5 on 5 multiplayer.
In co-op, you can play as either Nathan Drake, new girl Chloe or someone else like Sully or Elena, but in the time that co-op was tested, all I was able to get was two players, myself and someone else. However, good news. Even with a person short, 2 player co-op, and for that matter if you wish 3 player co-op, works very well.
As for multiplayer, Naughty Dog still have a couple of things to iron out with the multiplayer competitive that we noticed before release. However, for what it’s worth, it does work nicely well. You can explore pretty much like the game intends to. Simply put, it’s Uncharter’s single player meets Gears of War multiplayer to an extent.
There are several characters you can pick from like Nathan Drake, Sully, Chloe, Elena as well as the new baddies for the game itself in multiplayer. You also pretty much get the same weapons from the first game, but you also get new weapons like a improved sniper rifle and an RPG just to name a few. In the time I’ve played with the beta, I’ve noticed very little to no lag in the beta, which is very good news, hopefully Insomniac have been giving them tips on lagless multiplayer.
And like we said at the top of this article, Uncharted 2 looks unbelieveable. We thought that Naughty Dog wouldnt be able to surpass the graphics of the first Uncharted game, let alone other games. And while the jury is out on if is better then other games on the graphics front, you’d be a blind idiot to not think Uncharted 2′s graphics were simply amazing. The best graphics on PS3 so far? Jury’s out on that one, what with Killzone 2 out, and The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain on the way. But make no mistake, it is one of the best looking games on the PLAYSTATION 3 and is one of the best looking games on any platform this year, on a technical and graphical level too.
Final Impressions: There are still a couple of things Naughty Dog need to fix for the multiplayer, but I’m confident it’ll be fixed in time for it’s release. Naughty Dog are, in my honest opinion the most consistant developer time after time delivering great games on the PlayStation, be that with Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter and Uncharted, and it would take some sort of a miracle for them to fuck this one up.
This could be a “thriller”.
