Leipzig 08: Sony’s Press Conference – What Happened

Sony had their GC press conference earlier. In it, a release date for LittleBigPlanet, a shitload of new Singstar games including Singstar Vol 3 (Please include another Radiohead song), a new PSP model and a new music store. But the biggest moment of the conference came in the unveilment of Heavy Rain.
Everything that happened is after the jump.
15:32pm – Why, hallo thar. We got a livetext to cover.
15:38pm – We’re expecting alot from Sony after their lacklustre E3 press conference but it seems that even before the show has started, it already has beaten it. How?
Two words.
Heavy. Rain.
The game is been shown for the first time in the public domain and the first game has had any sort if showing since the tech demo at E3 2 years ago.
Also promised to be shown is the next generation of Singstar as well as a new PS Eye game which will be the first one to go onto a Blu-Ray.
Also, the last public live demo of LittleBigPlanet before release. Infact, Sony have said that they have over 12 announcements in total.
It’s gonna be a bumpy ride so get your seatbelts on folks, it’s gonna be a ‘biggin.
15:58pm – Get read folks, we’re about to get underway.
GOONL!NE Presents: Leipzig 2008 – Sony’s Press Conference
16:03pm – Montage being shown. Wipeout, LittleBigPlanet etc etc…
PSP games been shown as well as PSN games including Eden and R&C: Quest for Booty.
David Reeves has taken the stage and has welcomed in English and German.
Yay! The multi nationalist has returned!
16:05pm – “Come writers and critics who prophesise with your pen, and keep your eyes wide the chance won’t come again.” – David Reeves
16:07pm – “And don’t speak too soon for the wheel’s still in spin and there’s no tellin’ who that it’s namin’ for the loser now will be later to win for the times they are a changin’.”
Reeves has just quoted a Bob Dylan song! It’s a good one to quote anyways considering the fortunes of the PLAYSTATION 3 over the past 2 years.
16:09pm – CONFIRMED: PSP-3000
So the rumors were indeed true. As I listen to Coldplay on my PSP-1000 (Launch model), they have announced a brand new model of the PSP. Reeves is showing it in Piano Black.
16:10pm – “We will be enhancing the LCD screen. What this actually means is we have taken the already high quality screen and increased the intensity and number of colours it can display.” – David Reeves
So basiclly, your making a brighter screen to start with? Thats a start but where is the said built in mic?
16:12pm – Never mind, thats just been confirmed. And it will launch in EU on October 15th for E199.
16:17pm – Bloody WordPress is failing on me =(
Anyways, The Agency and DC Universe Online has been shown.
16:25pm – CONFIRMED: LittleBigPlanet Released in EU on October 29th
Oh yeah!!!
LittleBigPlanet has just been announced for October 29th.
Someone give a high five?
16:27pm – CONFIRMED: Free on-demand music service
It really is free! Its going to be seperate from the video store but it’ll feature an unlimited amount of streaming of music all for free onto your PS3 as well as Remote Play on the PSP and mobile.
Thats 3 announcements down, 9 to go.
16:29pm – Streaming service to come in Q1 09, Music downloads to come in Q3 09.
Singstar trailer been shown next.
Is it the next generation of Singstar?
16:31pm – Oh yeah!
New Singstar update coming. Any of the PS2 verisons of Singstar will work with the PS3 Singstar in a new firmware update coming soon for Singstar. SO basiclly, I am going out to buy Singstar Rocks again soon.
16:33pm – New Singstar game coming called Singstar Disney. We dont know if it’s PS2 or PS3 but we think its gonna be PS3. Also…
CONFIRMED: EyePet Announced
16:37pm – We’ll talk about that afterwards because now its the moment everyone has been waiting for…
HEAVY RAIN!
CONFIRMED: Heavy Rain is Been Shown
David Cage of Quantic Dreams has taken to the stage and he is going to talk about the game.
16:39pm – The game will be a serious and mature game with the game forcing moral choices on you, something similar to Farenheit or, if you wanan look at it another way, Splinter Cell: Double Agent.
It’s going to be very emotional too.
16:41pm – Actual gameplay footage is been shown with a neighbourhood (The same one the female biker was in a couple of weeks ago in the leaked screens we think) been tainted by evil.
The game is coming in 2009.
NIIIIIIICE!
We anticpate the footage.
16:43pm – Reeves has just come back and it seems he is wrapping up but he has a couple more announcements…we think.
16:45pm – Now a German speaker, Bassen Dowski of SCE Germany. He’s going to speak in German first and then in English.
16:51pm – New LittleBigPlanet trailer been shown…or when I say new…I dont think its new considering the vague description I am getting is that Sackboy has to rescue a princess…E3 trailer.
16:53pm – A producer of LittleBigPlanet has come on stage to show off the game but it aint, as said, Pete Smith of SCEE.
16:58pm – Trophies confirmed for LittleBigPlanet as a trophies promt came up during the demo.
17:00pm – XD
They accidently unlocked 50 trophies in the game. It cant be that easy is it?
17:02pm – Oh, thats it.
Dowski started speaking German again…and then the conference finished. So, nothing on Killzone 2 or Resistance 2 or now that I think about, nothing on PlayStation Home BUT we did get LittleBigPlanet and at long last, Heavy Rain.
I am really impressed Sony, this was better then your E3 conference.
17:05pm – Oh, I seem to have missed a vital piece of info. The 80GB PS3 maybe coming out on Friday but a (hold onto your seat for this) 160GB PS3 was unveiled with a wireless keyboard bundled.
Woah.
17:07pm – Oh, and its coming on Halloween, October 31st.
17:12pm – We’re going to call a wrap on this text, thanks for reading folks. We’ll try and get video soon.
Bye bye.
