Many titles have fled to 2010 to escape the ubiquitous launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warefare 2, but not so Assassin’s Creed II, with Ubisoft choosing to launch it just over a week after Activision’s shooter goes on sale but could this harm sales? Michael Pachter (analyst for Wedbush Morgan Securities) seems to think it could.
Speaking with GameTrailers, Pachter said,
“The game I think that gets hurt by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is this game. I think there’s a lot of overlap of people who played both of those games. And if you have only $60 to spend, the one you’ll not going to buy is Assassin’s Creed II.”
Although he feels AC II sales will be hurt by MW2, it’s not exactly going to be a flop,
“Two-thirds of the guys who bought it last time will buy it this time. So that’s four million. And then a bunch of new console owners who never played the first one will buy it. So it will do comparable or better than the last one.”
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released in November 10th on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, whilst Assassin’s Creed comes out on the 17th in North America and the 20th in the EU for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
