E3 2009: GOONL!NE – Best of E3 Awards 2009
Last night, we hinted the nominess.
Tonight, you find out the winner. Who is gonna be GOONL!NE’s E3 2009 Game of Show? No more talking, lets get straight to it.
Best PS3 Title – Nominees:
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
- God of War III
- Heavy Rain
- Final Fantasy XIII
Winner: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
If anything, this game is a potential example of how far the PS3 can be pushed, development wise. Naughty Dog did it before with Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune, they’re doing it again for Among Thieves. Simply, we cant wait.
Runner Up: God of War III
Best Xbox 360 Title – Nominees:
- Splinter Cell: Conviction
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Modern Warfare 2
- Alan Wake
Winner: Splinter Cell: Conviction
Sam’s changed, and for the better might we add. If we though the original conviction was gonna be good when it was revealed back at Ubidays 07, you aint seen nothing yet.
Runner Up: Alan Wake
Best Nintendo Wii Title – Nominees:
- The Conduit
- Dead Space: Extraction
- Super Mario Bros
- Wii Sports Resort
Winner: Super Mario Bros
A classic Mario Bros game, for the Wii, but now with added 4 played multiplayer and coming this winter. Cant ask for anything more then that, right?
Runner-Up: Dead Space: Extraction
Best Multiplatform-Title – Nominees:
- Final Fantasy XIII
- Assassins Creed II
- Modern Warfare 2
- Brutal Legend
Winner: Assassins Creed II
We were simply stunned by the demo shown at Sony’s press conference, we just want November to come now.
Runner-Up: Modern Warfare 2
Best Trailer – Nominees:
- The Last Guardian (Team ICO)
- Gran Turismo 5 (Polyphony Digital)
- Final Fantasy XIII (Square-Enix)
- Splinter Cell: Conviction (Ubisoft)
- Mass Effect 2 (EA BioWare)
Winner: The Last Guardian
The E3 trailer simply stunned us, even if it was a redux of the concept trailer. We want this game, and we want it now, Ueda-san.
Runner-Up: Mass Effect 2
Biggest Announcement:
- Hideo Kojima Announces Metal Gear Solid: Rising for Xbox 360
- Final Fantasy XIV Shown and Announced as a PS3 Exclusive
- Project Natal Announced
- Metroid: Other M Announced
- Gran Turismo 5 Shown
Winner: Final Fantasy XIV Shown and Announced as a PS3 Exclusive
It was tempting to try and go for Kojima and Rising, but even if it was a slight stretch of the truth from Sony, Final Fantasy XIV announced soon before Final Fantasy XIII is a big announcement for anyone. This was a giga, not a mega.
Runner-Up: Hideo Kojima Announces Metal Gear Solid: Rising for Xbox 360

So, this is it, the 2009 GOONL!NE Game of the Show. Needless to say, we were faced with a difficult choice picking the top game of E3, but overall, we think we picked the right one. Just to recap the nominees:
- Bayonetta (Platnum/SEGA)
- God of War III (Sony Santa Monica)
- Mass Effect 2 (EA BioWare)
- Splinter Cell: Conviction (Ubisoft)
- Forza Motorsport 3 (Turn 10)
- Uncharted 2: Among Thieves (Naughty Dog)
- Alan Wake (Remedy Games)
- Modern Warfare 2 (Infinity Ward)
- Final Fantasy XIII (Square Enix)
- Assassins Creed 2 (Ubisoft)
All of which are fine nominees in there own right, and no matter what, we think these are gonna be AAA selling games. But in the end, we had to give it to one game, and that one game is…

GOONL!NE’s E3 Best of Show – Splinter Cell: Conviction
Everything about that live demo shown at the Microsoft and Ubisoft press conferences, the trailer, the screens, shown at E3 this past week impressed us… alot. Conviction is the true meaning of the term “the comback kid”. Come this Fall, when it releases on Xbox 360, we simply cant wait to play Sam Fisher’s tale of revenge as he tries to uncover the truth about his daughter Sarah’s murder.
We honestly mean this when we say Fall cant come quick enough.
Runner-Up: Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
3rd Place: Assassins Creed II
