Uncharted 2 “exceeding expectations” – DLC Planned

Uncharted 2

Developer Naughty Dog have told of how Uncharted 2 has outsold it’s predecessor “by many, many times.”

“I would definitely say it’s exceeding expectations,” Naughty Dog’s creative director Amy Hennig told IndustryGamers.

“It’s a tough business, but from the early numbers I’ve seen getting reported back it’s exceeded any estimates we had internally, and it’s certainly outsold the first game by many, many times. That and the critical reception so far has been really gratifying.”

Hennig also confirmed that the first DLC for the game shouldn’t be too far away.

“We’re working on that now, and what we’re prepared to say is that there will be DLC available before the end of the year,” she added. “It’ll involve new maps, new characters, things like that. Some of it will be free of charge and some of it will be purchasable.

We’ve got a lot of people on the team working on this stuff, some really cool stuff that people will be excited about. So we’re definitely taking it very seriously.”

After his work on LittleBigPlanet, Steven Fry has announced via his page that he is voicing yet another game.

“Voiced a game character today. Can’t say any more, I’m afraid. NDA and all that. I say, though – isn’t it dark? I mean golly, eh? Sheesh.”

Any ideas as to what it could be?

Insomniac: PS3 won’t be maxed out for 2-3 years

ps3 slim

Speaking to CVG senior community manager for Insomniac James Stevenson has said it could be another two to three years before devs truly start to max out the PS3, much like how it was with the PS2.

“The first couple of years are all about developers getting games up and working. You see what Naughty Dog has had the chance to do in the past two years. You’ve seen what we’ve been able to do in that time. This is where it gets exciting” said Stevenson.

He went on to say that “The PS3 still feels like a young system… [and] I still think you’re not going to see the PS3 really maxed out for another two to three years. We’re using all of the PS3 right now, but you can always be more efficient in the way you use it.”

Dead Space and DiRT are both coming to Microsoft’s Games on Demand service today for Xbox 360, priced at £19.99/$29.99, though if you look around it’s easy enough to find them both on disc for cheaper. Still, if you’re feeling particularly lazy, the Games on Demand price isn’t too extortionate.

Thanks, VG247.

Sky TV Arrives On Xbox 360 Today

Posted in Xbox 360 with tags on October 27, 2009 by James Love

sky player

Sky Player finally arrives on Xbox 360 today, giving users access to 24 premium channels for a monthly fee of £15.

To gain access to the service, you’ll need an Xbox Live Gold account, a minimum broadband connection of 2Mb and either a Sky TV or Sky Player subscription. If you’re already a subscriber to one of those services, the service is free as you’re already paying for it.

Xbox Live Silver members can also access Sky News for free, while a special Sky Player Retail bundle pack will be available in stores from today which will include one month of the Sky Sports subscription pack, a three-month Live Gold membership and a Media Remote for £29.99.

For your £15 a  month you’ll be able to get the Entertainment Pack which gives you access to channels such as Sky One but if you want the Sports Pack, it’ll set you back an extra £19 a month. Pricey. Also, seeing as the UK’s broadband speeds aren’t exactly the best, there is currently no HD option for users.

This probably won’t be the last we’ll hear about Sky Player either, with the service expected to expand. Sky’s Sky’s Griff Parry said “More channels are being added all the time and we’re confident terrestrial broadcasters will join.” If Sky Player is a success on the Xbox 360, it’s not unlikely that the service could cross over to the PlayStation 3 much like Netflix has done recently.

Full channel list is after the jump.

Assassins Creed 2

The first part of Assassin’s Creed: Lineage has hit the internet. Here’s the basic plotline; “When the Duke of Milan is brutally murdered, the Assassin Giovanni Auditore is dispatched to investigate. The answers he uncovers implicate Italy’s most powerful families reaching all the way back to the Vatican itself. As Giovanni draws closer to the truth, he becomes hunted himself. He must expose the conspirators before he joins their ever growing list of victims.”

It’s just an excuse for flashy CGI and a lot of bloodshed. Part 1 after the jump.
