Valve considering PlayStation 3 development

Posted in PlayStation 3, Valve with tags , on February 19, 2010 by James Love

Left 4 Dead writer Chet Faliszek has offered PlayStation 3 owners a glimmer of hope that Valve titles may eventually make their way over to Sony’s console.

Speaking to Edge Faliszek said, ““Before we do anything on the PS3 we need to be able to support it in the right way, but we’ll look at it, and I’m sure down the road we’ll do it.”

Valve’s MD Gabe Newell had famously described the PlayStation 3 as “a total disaster on so many levels” and “a waste of everybody’s time,” however Faliszek’s statement may indicate a change of heart at the company. Whether Newell ranks among them remains to be seen.

Check out the Easter egg after the jump. Heavy Rain launches February 23rd in the US and 26th in the EU on PlayStation 3.

OPM: “We Firmly Believe That It’s Not Called Arc”

Posted in Official PlayStation Magazine, PlayStation 3 with tags , , on February 18, 2010 by Chris Hawke

They’re the gift that keeps on giving.

Again, in In Episode 8 of the Official Playstation Magazine Podcast, the team briefly discuss the Sony Motion Controller, thought to be called Arc. Editor-In-Chief Tim Clark said;

” [From what we know/have been told] We now firmly believe that it’s not called Arc”

Murmurs of agreement echo around the table. It seems like you can kiss goodbye to the futuristic ‘Arc’, and say hello to ‘Gem’.

OPM: “Very Special Game Still To Be Revealed”

Posted in Official PlayStation Magazine, Official Xbox Magazine, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , on February 18, 2010 by Chris Hawke

UPDATE: TheSixthAxis got in touch with Tim and can now report that the game is indeed the unannounced shooter being made by the ‘Black’ dev. team. So, without being too presumptuous…start saving for Black 2.

In Episode 8 of the Official Playstation Magazine Podcast, Editor-In-Chief Tim Clark has revealed that a new game is yet to be revealed.

“Next time we’ll be talking shooters with Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, Vanquish and another very special game yet to be announced.”

This means a new game, probably a shooter, will be revealed next month; while you might think from the podcast that it’s a PS3 exclusive, this does coincide nicely with OXN teasing “The shooter everyone’s been asking for“, so it may well be multiplatform.

Keep your eyes peeled and start wildly guessing.

Snapdragon to power gaming devices this year

Posted in Other Gaming with tags , , on February 17, 2010 by James Love

Qualcomm’s 1GHz Snapdragon processor has already been seen in phones like the Google Nexus One and the HTC HD2.

Now there are plans to bring the chip to gaming devices by the end of 2010 to provide competition to the Nintendo DS and the Sony PSP according to Mark Frankel, Vice President of product management.

He told Mobile Entertainment that “There will be, by the end of this year, specific game-centric platforms launched around Snapdragon,” and that “you’ll be able to see clearly that gaming is the main focus of those devices. There’ll be a category of gaming devices that hasn’t been on the marketplace before using Snapdragon.”
