343 Industries Formed to Oversee Halo Series

Posted in Microsoft Games Studios, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , , , , on July 23, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

master-chiefMicrosoft have formed a brand new 1st party studio known as 343 Industries, formed specfically to oversee the Halo series.

The studio will be headed by ex-Bungie alumni, Frankie O’Connor.

If you look at how George Lucas held on to Star Wars, not just to make money from action figures but to control the direction the universe went in, you can see why we think it’s pretty vital. Luckily, Microsoft has the resources to enable us to do that.

More at the LA Times.

We assume this is also now the same studio former id developer Corrine Yu and former Kojima Productions vet Ryan Payton are now posted under, the latter being attached to the mysterious Halo: Chronicles, the project from Peter Jackson.

It was 10 years to the day yesterday since the original Halo was announced.

Posted in Rockstar Games, Xbox 360, Xbox Live with tags , , , , on July 23, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

The Ballad of Gay TonyRockstar Games have dated Grand Theft Auto IV: The Ballad of Gay Tony for October 29th, exclusive to the Xbox 360.

As well as the DLC expansion, they also dated their standalone game, Episodes from Liberty City, for October 29th. The game sees both The Ballad of Gay Tony and earlier expansion, The Lost and Damned, coming to the Xbox 360 in a single disc, which doesnt need Grand Theft Auto IV.

That is also exclusive to the 360.

To add the cherry to the cake, Rockstar have also put live the website for Gay Tony and Episodes from Liberty City.

Both expansion and Episodes from Liberty City were announced back in May.

uncharted-2Despite SCEE saying otherwise, Naughty Dog co-president Christophe Balestra has that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will be released in Europe on October 23rd.

Thats despite SCEE telling us earlier this morning that a EU date for the game was “not yet been confirmed,”.

So, there you go EU. You finally have your date.

Uncharted 2 EU Date “not yet confirmed”

uncharted-2-1So it’s coming to the PS3 in the US on October 13th, so we assume it’s coming a couple of days later for Europe on October 16th? Not quite.

SCEE has told GOONL!NE that a EU date for the game “has not yet been confirmed,”.

And speaking to VG247, a specfic UK date hasnt been given for the game.

We haven’t announced a release date for Uncharted 2 in the UK.

Well, it should almost be October either way anyways.

Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Dated for US

Uncharted 2Sony Computer Entertainment America has dated Uncharted 2: Among Thieves for Tuesday October 13th 2009.

Which means, somewhat coincidentally, we were either right all along about the October date or we were double bluffed.

In the US, the game will come with plenty of pre-order bonus including golden guns for multiplayer and perks for it. As well as that, GameStop will also have exclusive rights to the second multiplayer beta announced a couple of weeks ago. It will open up to the public then from September 29th and will end the day game releases, October 13th.

However, SCEE haven’t confirmed a specfic date for the game in Europe yet. Needless to say,we’re on the case and have sent SCEE an email to clarify. Although it does look pretty likely that the EU date is October 16th.

RUMOR: IGN’s Greg Miller Confirms PS3 Slim on IGN Podcast

Posted in PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , on July 20, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

ps3

Oh dear.

First the PSPGo and now this. Either this is a very sick and cruel joke or months of speculation has come to an end. IGN PlayStation editor Greg Miller may have confirmed the existance of the PS3 Slim on the latest episode of IGN podcast GameScoop!, caught by Patrick Garratt of VG247.

The transcript goes:

“Because we have one for real.”

“Yeah, but that’s…”

“Yeah, but that’s under wraps.”

“Sorry, I wasn’t supposed to say that, was I?”

“We can edit that out. David can edit that out.”

“45 minutes. OK.”

We can confirm Miller did say that as it was him that said it. For now, the PS3 slim reveal will now almost certainly come at GamesCOM in Cologne in a month’s time.
