Final Fantasy XIII Launches in Japan

Posted in Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy XIII Japanese Launch Portal, PlayStation 3, Square Enix, Xbox 360 on December 17, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

After years and months of waiting, Final Fantasy XIII has launched in Japan.

Square Enix has apparently confirmed that under 2 million units of the game has shipped to retailers in the country (thanks, UFFS), including those bundled with the Lightning and Sazh PS3 bundles that were also released, although numbers for how many bundles have shipped are unknown.

We wont get the early sales numbers for the game until possibly Friday most likely. As far as the hardware goes, for which FFXIII is expected to push PS3 sales into space, we’ll know the first indications on Friday when Media-Create releases the hardware numbers for the week, which should give the first indications.

We wont know the full effect of what the game has done in the MC software charts, as the game’s release was too late to be counted for the latest charts released earlier this morning.

The game won’t be releasing in the West until Tuesday March 9th 2010 for PS3 and Xbox 360. We’ve imported our copy of the game, so we’ll be sure to write some first impressions and maybe capture even the first 20 minutes. Stay tuned, sports fans.

For now, check our No# 10 of our 2010 Advent Calendar, which is Final Fantasy XIII today.

As you read this, practically all of Japan will be a third way through their first playthrough of Final Fantasy XIII.

Us Westerners, unless you want to import like myself, won’t get our hands on the game until March 2010 in a US/EU sim-ship. The question that only remains is can Final Fantasy XIII turn out to be not just one of the best RPGs of next year, but the best of next year altogether?

Digital Comics (Including Manga) May Be Headed To PS3

Posted in PlayStation 3, PlayStation Store with tags , , on December 16, 2009 by Chris Hawke

Today, in North America, the Digital Comics service for the PSP was rolled out, allowing owners of the handheld to download and read comics via the PSP PSN Store. Big deal, right? Well, if you own a PS3 and want a piece of the comic book action, then there might be a Christmas treat for you.

On the Playstation US Blog, Grace Chen replied to a question asking whether the comics would be available to transfer to PS3;

“Currently, there’s no reader on the PS3 to view the digital comics. But we are always exploring options to bring features to both the PS3 and PSP platforms. We work closely with the publishers to bring new and older comics to PSN.”

So, hopefully, a PS3 Comic reader will available soon, and users will be able to thumb through Spiderman via their Dualshock 3 at their leisure. She also reveals that Manga will probably be on its way soon. There’s a screenshot of the replies after the jump, and we’ve already sent off a volley of e-mails asking them to add Graphics Novels. No need to thank us.

And Its Goodbye from Me… Innit

Posted in GOONL!NE Stuff with tags , , on December 14, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

By Jonathan Cullen.

For the past two years, managing GOONL!NE has been nothing short of incredible.

It really has been one hell of a ride. Sometimes, it hasn’t been great, but it is a fantastic experience that I have had, and one which I will treasure the most. Especially with staff like James Love, David Pitchforth and Will Swarbrick, plus our fantastic freelance contributors Jennifer Allen and Martin Gaston.

But it is time to give up this position of power for another position of power, abet a slightly less powerful position than here, but still exciting enough.
