Kojima: Castlevania Involvement is for “support”

Posted in Castlevania: Lords of Shadow, Kojima Productions, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , , on July 1, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

kojimaHideo Kojima has spoken out in this week’s Famitsu (via 1UP) on his involvement with Castlevania: Lords of  Shadow.

The game, revealed to be a Castlevania game at E3 and one of the 3 myserious games the Kojima Productions head teased about before the show alongside two new Metal Gear Solid games in Rising and Peace Walker,  isnt in development at Kojima Productions and is actually being done by MercuryStream for the PS3 and 360, but Koj does insist that his studio are playing a “support role”.

Kojima Productions is playing more of a support role. Castlevania is one of Konami’s most important brands, one that’s seen many releases since the original, and they’ve all been received warmly, but there’s never been a Castlevania created to really satisfy Western gamers. People like Dave [Cox, game's producer] were influenced by Castlevania to become game designers, and now they’re making titles like God of War. This has become a big project, one with the idea that we needed to make a Castlevania which had that same kind of feverish Western support, and that’s why Kojima Productions came in to help.

It’s out next year.

Last FMMicrosoft has outlined it’s plans for music service, Last FM, when the service launches on the Xbox 360 this Fall alongside Facebook and Twitter in the Fall update.

GM for Xbox Live, Christina DeRosa, talked to Joystiq about it, citing that both Gold and Silvers will be able to enjoy the service, but DeRosa states that you need to upgrade to Gold to get the full Last FM experience as Silver’s will only be able to get 3 hours of the service per month.

Silver users will be able access what we’re considering a trial period of three hours a month, which comes with video advertising. Gold users will have unlimited ad-supported access, so they can use it 24 hours a day.

DeRosa webt on to say that Last FM subscriptions will also be available for any user on Last FM on Xbox Live, so if you have subscription from them, you can live the ultimate dream.

There will also be a premium offering on a subscription basis from Last.fm, that will be commercial free and will also have more sophisticated personalization features, like Loved Tracks.”

Dont worry though, if you can bare the 3 hours per month thing, membership to Last FM is free.

Jaffe Confirms No Game Reveal Next Week

Posted in PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , , , on July 1, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

JaffeNow, this one just got interesting.

Yesterday, David Jaffe left a tweet from Twitter saying he was showing off his new game at a “dog and pony” type show for Sony and the worldwide honchos like WorldWide studios boss, Shuhei Yoshida, where all worldwide studios would show off the latest builds from PS3 games (yes, in other words, Last Guardian will be there too).

This however still led to speculation that it would be revealed next week, but Jaffe has put that to rest at NeoGAF when they started to nose around . He does however state that they will look at a reveal sometime after the New Year.

Hey- not announcing a game next week. We are going to the monthly Sony greenlite meeting where all of the Playstation groups in the world convene to get brought up to speed on ALL the games being made and to offer feedback, suggestions, and work with the game makers to try to make sure the games will be well received in the numerous territories that Playstation games are sold.

So we’re putting together a video of gameplay to bring the overall Playstation group- lead by Shu Yoshida- up to speed on our title.

It’s stressful for us cause we want them to be happy and supportive of our work. But it’s got nothing to do with an announcement for the public. My guess is that we are looking at announcing the title right after the New Year but that’s out of my hands.

So, there you have it. It’s naturally Twisted Metal PS3 of course, you’d be a fool to bet against it. A teaser at the end of the most recent Twister Metal for the PS2 stated that a TM was in development for PS3. We can only wait and see what happens next with Jaffe and Eat, Sleep, Play.

Naughty Dog: Uncharted 2 to Recieve 90 Minutes Worth of Cutscenes

Posted in Naughty Dog, PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios, Uncharted, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves with tags , , , , , , on July 1, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

uncharted-2Naughty Dog’s co-president Evan Wells has said in a US PS Blog livetext, alongside Naughty Dog creative director Amy Hening, that the cutscenes for the game will come in at 90 minutes as far as the game’s story is concerned.

The single player campaign is definitely going to be longer than Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune. We have over 90 minutes of cinematics alone!

So there pretty much is a whole spread of cutscenes combined to 90 minutes in the game, compared to the suposed 90 minute ending of MGS4 (it wasnt 90 mins, but it felt like it).

Game’s out this Fall, with a date promised soon, and a second multiplayer beta coming soon as well.
