Cologne 2009: 1UP Hint at Possible Gran Turismo 5 Date Announcement Next Week

GT5

There has been much speculation over recent weeks of a possible Gran Turismo 5 release date, and 1Up’s ListenUP podcast have been dropping more hints of a possible 2009 release date.

This excerpt from the podcast from the final minutes strongly hints at a big game announcement this week at GamesCom.

John Davidson: “Big Sony game coming up this year you might not have expected”

Garnett Lee then asks if John can give any more hints without blowing cover. John’s response it to wait ’til next week. Sam Kennedy then clears his throat by making engine noises and asking “What are you driving at?”

With GT5 being listed for this year by major retailers like GAME and Play.com, it is quite likely that we could now hear something from Sony on Tuesday about their flagship race title during their GamesCom conference in Cologne

Posted in Capcom, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 with tags , on August 14, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

lost-planet-2Capcom has told GOONL!NE that the co-op demo for Lost Planet 2, confirmed this morning for a release on Xbox Live next week during gamescom, is still to be decided for the PLAYSTATION 3.

“A Lost Planet 2 demo for PS3 is still to be confirmed,” was what Capcom’s Leo Tan, head of UK PR for the publisher, told us this morning.

He also told us it doesn’t show how “awesome” (his words, not ours obviously) the game is with this demo.

“The release is pretty comprehensive, to be honest. It doesn’t say how AWESOME the game is, though. And it should.”

There you have it, Radiohead. It’s out next year for PS3 and 360. We’ll hopefully have impressions of the demo when it goes live next week.

While it wasn’t officiallly dated, SCEA did tentively tag the title for the fall of this year at it’s pre-E3 gamers day back in May. However, SCEA did confirm that the game will be at PAX next month, from the start of September for all attendents to try out.

SCEE: GamesCom Conference Lasting an Hour, Not Three

Posted in GamesCOM - Cologne 2009, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Network, PlayStation Store, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , , , , , on August 12, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

PS3SCEE’s confirmed to VG247 that it’s three-hour press conference is actually only an hour long.

Well, two hours if you count sitting down, the conference, assumingly for the German part of the conference and leaving. The console holder also confirmed that it’ll begin at 6pm BST on Tuesday, thats 7pm GMT in Cologne.

Earlier in July, the publisher stated it would be a three hour conference, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. But now, it will only last from 6:30pm-8:30pm GMT . However, rampant speculation as to what will be mentioned during the conference is still growing by the day, particuarly the price-cut.

According to MCV, UK retailers are being stripped of PS3s in antcipation for a new price-point, hence “price-cut”. As to what the price will be reduced to is unknown, but a fair guess would be £199 with the PS3 Slim due to come in at £249.

However, SCEE did confirm that news on the EU version of the Video Store, which has been live in the US for a good part of a year now, will be mentioned during the conference. The news came from the EU PS Blog.

Speculation is still riffe that the PS3 Slim, the price cut; which seems to be all but confirmed, and a date for Gran Turismo 5 will all be announced during the event.

Keep an eye on Tuesday then.
