Yamauchi: It’s “impossible” to Fully Describe GT5

Posted in GamesCOM - Cologne 2009, PlayStation 3, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios with tags , , , on August 9, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

gt5Cologne isn’t that far, ‘ya know?

Kazunouri Yamauchi has gone on record in an interview just published that it would be “impossible” to try and fully describe Gran Turismo 5.

The GT creator, and head of Polyphony, also confirmed that any cars unlocked from Gran Turismo PSP will be carried over to GT5. He then reaffirms the fact they could release the game this year if they wanted to.

“About GT5, specifications are not finalized, we can release it anytime now, but we can also spend an infinite amount of time polishing things. That’s the current situation. We’ll release it when we’re totally happy with the result. And there’s so much in GT5 that it would be impossible to fully describe it using just a summary,” said Yamauchi.

“If you have a car in GT PSP, then it will be unlocked in GT5.”

Valve: We want to see the “compelling game” for Natal

Posted in Project Natal, Valve, Xbox 360 with tags on August 6, 2009 by James Love

Natal

In a recent interview with Destructoid, Left 4 Dead writer Chet Faliszek has told of his interest in Microsoft’s Project Natal, which was shown at E3 in June.

“I think Wii hit it out of the park with the titles that it shipped with. I bought two Wiis, and they’re both [for visiting] family, and playing. I can’t seem to box them up and carry them, so I had to buy two. [Wii's launch titles] are perfect games for that … I haven’t found much else that’s compelling. I want to see the compelling game first,” said Faliszek.

“That will be the main issue for Natal, whether it will be able to ensnare the ‘hardcore’ gamer that Microsoft already has attracted to it’s console along with the casual user that is Natal’s main target by having titles with bags of quality.”

With all the talent in the team at Valve, here’s to hoping their first Natal-based game is a success but in the mean time Valve, care to release HL2: Episode 3? It’s only been, what, a mere two year wait.

PS3 Gets Unofficial Price Cut in Spain and Italy

Posted in GamesCOM - Cologne 2009, PlayStation 3 with tags , , , , on August 6, 2009 by James Love

PS3

For many months now, there has been much rumour and speculation about the PS3 receiving a price cut (possibly in the run-up to a new Slim edition), with Activision CEO Bobby Kotick calling for the price to be slashed.

It seems the price has been cut by some major retailers in mainland Europe, unofficially for the meantime.

Spanish retailler Alternate have cut the price from €399 to €299, whilst in Italy retail giant CHL have reduced the price of the console yet further from €389 to €249.

Whether the price will be officially cut at GamesCom remains to be seen, but these two drastic cuts would indicate a price drop is inevitable. From the changes in price made by Alternate and CHL, prices in the UK and US could be expected to be approximately £199 and $299 respectively if cuts occur there too.

And Japan looks set to be readying in the price-cut, or for another SKU, in some fashion.

Kotaku (via Japanese gaming blog ) have reported that pre-orders for the 80GB (black, white and silver models) will not be taken after August 9th at 10am, at the request of the manufacturer. The notice also states that all in-store displays for the 80GB SKU are to be removed too, leaving Japan without a PS3 console, with either the 160GB model coming on sale or nothing until the PS3 Slim is, inevitably, revealed.

RUMOR: Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned Coming to PC

Posted in GamesCOM - Cologne 2009, Rockstar Games, Xbox 360 with tags , , , , on August 6, 2009 by James Love

gta-iv-lost-and-damnedWe don’t do PC on GO… never. But considering the circumstances, we’re prepared to make this exception… once.

Ever since The Lost and Damned – the first of the two episodes from Grand Theft Auto IV –  launched back in February, PC and PS3 owners have sit back and watch with envy as Xbox 360 enjoyed the GTA IV expansion. But it seems that the add-on content is finally going to make its much-rumoured move to another platform, the PC.

An excerpt from the Germany’s ratings board, the USK has listed down the DLC for a possible reveal as two trailers are rated to be shown at GamesCom in Cologne, with the PC being listed as the platform for it.

Earlier this year, Rockstar released the first of the two episodes on Xbox Live. The second, The Ballad of Gay Tony, is due for release on October 29th. Also due for release as well is a special 2 episode collection on disc for the Xbox 360, known as “Episodes from Liberty City”: that releases also on October 29th.

GamesCom kicks off in a week and a half from now. Incriminating proof is after the jump.

We’ve left comment with Rockstar on this.

RUMOR: Modern Warfare Coming to Wii

Posted in Activision, Nintendo Wii with tags , , , , on August 5, 2009 by Jonathan Cullen

Modern Warfare 3According to Kotaku, Activision are developing a Wii version of Modern Warfare. Better yet, they will in fact announce it today.

However Wii fans, before you go off the rails and laugh at the HD consoles for snagging this, it should be noted that they refer to Modern Warfare 1 – as in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare – and not Modern Warfare 2.

Treyarch will be handling the port, and not Infinity Ward, but the game will release day and date with Modern Warfare 2 on November 10th.

Expect the announcement during Activision’s Q2 financial results tonight.
