GOONL!NE’s Top 20 Games of 2008

2007 was a great year in gaming with Halo 3, Call of Duty 4, Assassins Creed, Super Mario Galaxy, Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune and The Orange Box. But 2008 was miles better with Grand Theft Auto IV, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Gears of War 2, Lost Odyssey, Super Smash Bros. Brawl and Burnout Paradise as well as many others.

You cant help but love the great games that have come out this year and while 2009 is gonna be awesome, lets look back on the 20 greatest games for 2008 one last time as we enter 2009.

CONFIRMED: LittleBigPlanet MGS DLC – Announced, Priced, Dated

Get ready for a very special treat for the Christmas, Media Molecule is about to release the most funniest and exciting DLC ever.

To be released on 23rd December, the MGS Level and Character pack sees MGS take on LittleBigPlanet with new level, new material and new chatacters plus a new addition to the game.  Appropriately titled ‘the Paintinator’ gives the Sackboys some much needed weaponry to face their nemesis. As the name suggests, the DLC includes paintball guns-which obviously fires..er..paintballs, giving a whole new dimension to create new user created levels for insane fun.

The paintball guns work the same way as jetpacks and include this in your level as a powerup.

As well as that, you will also have 12 new trophies to come and a character pack which includes Snake (revealed back at the Tokyo Games Show), Meryl Silverburgh, Raiden and Screaming Mantis as well as a new costume for your Sackboy, a terrorist outfit worn by Olga Gurlokovich’s group in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Plus, as well as the Paintinator, you also get 5 new levels to play with plus many many more cool stuff to come.

Jump Fiesta 2008: New Final Fantasy XIII Trailer Shown

Square Enix are at Jump Fiesta and they have brought with them a new trailer of Final Fantasy XIII for the PLAYSTATION 3 and Xbox 360, thats the good news.

The bad news?

Well, the recently released trailers from the RE: Replay DVD are all the footage we’re gonna get from Square this year because this new trailer is Square’s infamous Closed Mega Theatre. However, info of the trailer has gotten out (Sadly, no video like Versus XIII at JF last year or audio of FFXIII at this year’s TGS) and from the looks of it, it could be the best trailer yet.

RUMOR: Crackdown 2 Development to Commence Soon Thanks to New Studio

Anybody desperate for a sequal to Crackdown?

Guess what, you maybe in luck.

Recently, on Xbox’s Larry “Major Nelson” Hylb’s podcast, Nelson himself asked on the behalf of Xbox 360 owners everywhere for a sequal to the game itself to Phil Spencer, the new head of Microsoft Games Studios. Spencer went on to say that Crackdown was one of his favourite Xbox 360 games without commenting further which was a major hint to the future.

Even more recently, members of the original developer of Crackdown, Real Time Worlds, formed together to create a new studio called Ruffian Games.

Now, to create a new studio, you need something or someone to fund your venture as we are in a recession, a example of this can only come as recent as yesterday when Free Radical went into administration but it seems this new studio, headed by lead designer of Crackdown, Billy Thompson, maybe getting funded alot by a certain party.

T2: Too Early for GTA V

grand-theft-auto-ivWe revealed last night that Take Two had re-signed the 3 key figures from Rockstar Games, Dan and Sam Houser and Leslie Benzies, which meant that Rockstar Games would stay with Take Two until January 2012 when said contracts expire.

As well as that, Rockstar will be setting up a new internal studio inside the company. It comes hot off the heals of the success of Grand Theft Auto IV for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3 with the impending release of Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned exclusively to the Xbox 360 in Februrary with GTA IV: Episode Two sometime later on in 2009.

But soon after, what is happening after Grand Theft Auto IV, what about Grand Theft Auto V?

RUMOR: Free Radical Goes Bust

It’s been growing and growing for a couple of hours now but it seems that with every hour passing, it’s becoming a reailty. According to rumors circulating around the net, which seem to becoming into fruitation, Free Radical has gone bust and dissolved.

Adam Sessler Announced as Editor in Chief of G4TV

The point is that Adam Sessler, everyone’s loveable, huggable, friendly neighbourhood Sess, has just got a promotion!

Yes, a week where he controversialy announced Fable II as X-Play’s GOTY and after being called out by presenter of Attack of the Show, Kevin Perreria, Sessler has been announced as G4′s Editor in Chief or to give him his full title, Editor-in-Chief of Games Content.

He will still front X-Play with Morgan Webb and will still do his own Sessler’s Sopabox but now, Sessler will have a little less time to play Fable II.

From Monday December 21st 2008, GOONL!NE will be taking a well deserved break from giving you news and reviews due to the Christmas break.

It has been an eventful year for GOONL!NE.

We started out on Blogger as Gamzsone V3: GOONL!NE before switching here as GOONL!NE and we couldn’t have done it without you and your support so from all of us here, thank you.

But, there is one more thing we’re gonna be doing before then and that is Jump Fiesta 2008.

No New Team ICO News Today… But Look Forward to February 2009?

team-icoKnow that Team ICO news we posted yesteday where we could finally get new info on the new Team ICO game for the PLAYSTATION 3?

Yip, nada.

All we got was a Christmas card with the concept art released earlier in the year for this new game with the Team ICO logo and PLAYSTATION 3 logo.

But, there was a very mysterious post on their website which thanks their readers for their recognition.

CONFIRMED: Take Two Resign Rockstar Games

Take Two have confirmed that they will keep Rockstar Games under their branch of studios untill 2012 meaning that key people from Rockstar Games such as Leslie Benzies as well as the Houser brothers, Dan and Sam, will be staying until January 2012.
